HAY HOIST

As reported by Dave Baker on 3/09

On Friday, Rudi, Jim and I picked up the hay hoist that Ken and Teresa Hill (Atlasta Farms) donated last year. While there, they gave us a wooden wheeled wheel barrow with flat spoke wheels.

I remember that Dad had a hoist like this until 1950 when he got the baler. He powered his with an old Pontiac car engine on skids with a pulley on the transmission. The large spool pulled the large rope that took the hay fork or sling up into the barn, and the small spool brought the car and fork or sling back to the wagon. A man in the haymow pulled the trip rope to dump the load trying not to get buried.
