Draft Horse Pull Joins Antique Tractor Pull as Popular Event at Exhibition
The June Exhibition featured the Museumís first Draft HorsePulling competition with seven teams competing for trophies and money. The event was sponsored by Bill Collins of the McFadden Dier Insurance Agency, Meyer Equine Enterprises, Inc. of Carthage, Dave Stout Farm of Briar Hill, and Elliottís Farm & Home Supply in Winthrop. Weights were provided by the Gouverneur Elks Club and Hammond Fair. Event Coordinator John Castle was joined by announcer Gary Bush, Irving Guerin on scales, Joe Finnegan on pull back tractor, Ted and Eleanor Austin entering records, and Dick Castle, Bob Dalton, Dan Dunkelburg, Al Garrand, Bob Smith, Dave Stout, and Gary and Ann Thomas.
In the Light Class, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were won by Spoor Manor, Gary Thomas, and Wayne Beldock respectively.
In the Heavy Class, 1st through 4th place were Spoor Brothers, Spoor Manor, McNeill Family, and Bill and Gary Thomas.
