SLPEM Museum member and volunteer John Castle recently provided Fort Tribute with photos and the history of three of his relatives, who served in regiments from St. Lawrence County. These are now added to our collection of local men, along with a brief history of each for visitors to learn more about the people behind just a name in a muster roll.

In 2019 construction began on the Fort and was finished in the summer of 2020.

Dream it.

A historical stockade fort built on the Museum property as a living tribute to those brave St. Lawrence County residents who mustered in and fought courageously in the American Civil War, 1861-1865. Located near the fort’s main entrance is a memorial to the Medal of Honor recipients of St. Lawrence County.

Build it.

The Fort includes barracks, officer’s headquarters, sutler store and a parade ground with a flagpole as its center piece.

Share it.

Although no battles were fought in New York, our state provided more to troops to the Union Army than any other state. Many were farm boys who had never left the county or even ridden on a train. Yet, they answered the call to arms in defense of the Union.  This is the least we can do to show our devotion to those who sacrificed so much.

Living history demonstrations, military drills, including the firing of artillery and camp life when the fort is open.

This Fort is named Tribute in honor of those nearly 6,000 men from St. Lawrence County who fought valiantly during the American Civil War 1861-1865 in the regiments of the New York 16th, 18th, 50th, 60th, 75th, 78th, 86th, 92d, 93d, 98th, 100th, 102d, 105th, 106th, 142d, 164th and 193d Volunteer Infantry, 2d, 6th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 18th, 20th and 26th Volunteer Cavalry and 1st, 13th, 14th and 16th Volunteer Artillery.
